Armed robbers staged a dramatic highway ambush in southern Italy on Monday, attacking an armored cash-transport vehicle between Brindisi and Lecce.
Disguised in a car resembling a police vehicle, the gang blocked the truck at gunpoint, opened fire, and detonated an explosive to blow open its roof as shocked motorists looked on.
Security forces quickly arrived, exchanged gunfire with the suspects, and forced them to flee, during which the robbers hijacked cars to escape.
No injuries were reported, and the robbery appears to have failed, Ynet News has reported.
Italian police later arrested two suspects in the Lecce area, while up to four others remain at large.
