US humanoid robot hits perfect cartwheel and backflip with steady balance

Boston Dynamics is completing final tests on its Atlas humanoid robot before moving to a production-ready version, pushing it through acrobatic maneuvers like walking, cartwheels, and backflips.

The tests, conducted with the Robotics & AI Institute, evaluate Atlas’s control software and real-world mobility using simulation-trained, whole-body learning.

Videos show the robot recovering from missteps with precise adjustments, demonstrating the sophistication of its control system.

Slow-motion and “blooper” reels highlight both smooth executions and hardware limits, including stumbles and lost components after hard landings, Interesting Engineering has reported.

These experiments showcase Atlas’s advanced agility and hint at future applications beyond the lab, including factory or real-world deployments.
