Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick admitted Tuesday that he and his family had lunch on Jeffrey Epstein’s private island in 2012 during a family vacation.
Lutnick testified before the Senate Appropriations Committee that his wife, four children, nannies, and another family were present, and he saw nothing inappropriate during the visit.
His admission comes amid scrutiny over previously undisclosed business and personal contacts with Epstein, including communications and dealings as late as 2014, despite Lutnick’s earlier claims that he cut ties after 2005.
Lutnick insisted he had “barely anything to do” with Epstein over 14 years, citing only a handful of emails and encounters, CNBC has reported.
While lawmakers raised concerns that he misled Congress about his relationship, the White House expressed continued support for Lutnick.
