A federal judge declared a mistrial Tuesday in the case of nine alleged Antifa members accused of ambushing a police officer at the Prairieland ICE Detention Center.
The mistrial was triggered by defense attorney MarQuetta Clayton wearing a T‑shirt featuring civil rights icons Shirley Chisholm and Martin Luther King Jr. during jury selection.
Judge Mark Pittman said the shirt was inappropriate and scheduled a show‑cause hearing to consider possible sanctions against Clayton.
Jury selection will restart next week with a new pool of 130 potential jurors, after some initial jurors expressed opposition to ICE enforcement, Fox News has reported.
The defendants face charges for a July 4, 2025, incident involving fireworks, property damage, and gunfire targeting federal officers, in which an Alvarado police officer was shot in the neck but survived.
