Epstein files suggest acts that may amount to crimes against humanity, say UN experts

A UN human rights council panel of independent experts said millions of files related to Jeffrey Epstein point to a “global criminal enterprise” whose actions may meet the legal threshold for crimes against humanity.

The experts highlighted that the crimes occurred against a backdrop of supremacist beliefs, misogyny, racism, and corruption, resulting in the commodification and dehumanization of women and girls.

They called for an independent, thorough, and impartial investigation into the allegations and how such abuses persisted for so long.

Concerns were also raised about failures in redactions, which exposed sensitive victim information, retraumatizing survivors, The Guardian has reported.

The files reveal Epstein’s ties to high-profile figures in politics, finance, academia, and business both before and after his 2008 conviction, and his death in 2019 was ruled a suicide.
