Trump sued over plan to ‘bring car prices tumbling down dramatically’

Environmental groups including the Natural Resources Defense Council and Sierra Club have sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over the Trump administration’s plan to roll back federal emissions and fuel economy standards.

The lawsuit challenges the EPA’s decision to rescind the 2009 “endangerment finding,” which identified greenhouse gas emissions from cars as a threat to public health and underpins current fuel efficiency rules.

The administration argues that eliminating these standards will lower car prices and reduce regulatory costs, claiming savings of up to $6,000 per vehicle over its lifetime.

Critics counter that the rollback will raise gas costs, harm the environment, the USA Today has reported.

The case was filed Feb. 18 in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and highlights the tension between economic and environmental priorities.
