10 FBI staffers who worked on Mar-a-Lago documents case are fired, sources say

At least 10 FBI employees who worked on Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into President Donald Trump’s retention of classified documents were fired on Wednesday, sources told CBS News.

The terminations followed reports that the FBI had subpoenaed phone records of former FBI Director Kash Patel and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles from when they were private citizens.

The FBI Agents Association condemned the firings, saying they violated due process and undermined trust in leadership.

Smith’s investigations had previously led to federal charges against Trump, including for classified documents and attempts to overturn the 2020 election, but the cases were later dismissed or dropped, CBS News has reported.

The firings are part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to combat what they have described as political law fare in the country.
