India and Israel pledge to boost cooperation on trade, defense

Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a two-day visit to Israel, announcing closer collaboration with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on defence technology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, alongside plans for a free trade agreement.

The leaders signed over a dozen bilateral agreements, including cooperation in “horizon scanning” to track emerging global trends.

Israel agreed to admit 50,000 more Indian nationals for work in construction and caregiving, amid restrictions on Palestinian workers.

Modi and Netanyahu also referenced recent terrorist attacks, condemning violence and highlighting counterterrorism as a shared priority, Al-Jazeera has reported.

The visit drew domestic criticism in India, reflecting concerns over Modi’s strategic embrace of Israel amid ongoing conflict in Gaza, while both leaders expressed support for U.S. efforts toward a Gaza ceasefire.
