Senate Democrats demand tariff refunds begin ‘immediately’

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and other Democrats are demanding refunds after the Supreme Court struck down most of President Trump’s tariff policies last week.

In a Friday letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, they urged U.S. Customs and Border Protection to start refunding over $130 billion in illegal tariffs within 90 days, prioritizing small businesses and those hardest hit.

The move follows lawsuits from companies like Costco, Revlon, and FedEx seeking repayment, as well as state-level demands, including from Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

Democrats said the ruling reaffirmed that no president is above the law and criticized Trump’s continued imposition of new global tariffs, The Hill has reported.

Senators including Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Tim Kaine (D-Va.) emphasized ongoing congressional efforts to roll back the tariffs and protect consumers from higher prices.
