Republicans praise U.S. strikes on Iran as Democrats question strategy

Congressional reactions to the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran have largely split along party lines, with Republicans supporting the operation and Democrats questioning the strategy and urging congressional approval.

Lindsey Graham said the U.S. should not put boots on the ground and that eliminating Ayatollah Ali Khamenei serves America’s interest in countering state-sponsored terrorism.

Democrats were divided: Ro Khanna argued Americans are not safer despite Khamenei’s death, while Mark Kelly said it may have improved safety but criticized the lack of a clear strategy.

Several Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, called for a war powers vote to compel the administration to seek congressional authorization for further military action, NBC News has reported.

Republican senators, including Tom Cotton, emphasized the threat posed by Iran’s missiles and space program, arguing the strikes were necessary to prevent imminent dangers to U.S. forces and allies.
