Aaron Spencer, who is awaiting trial for killing the man accused of sexually abusing his daughter, won the Republican nomination for sheriff in Lonoke County, Arkansas.
He secured over 53% of the vote, defeating incumbent Sheriff John Staley and another candidate.
An Army veteran and farmer, Spencer has argued that his actions were justified under Arkansas law to protect his daughter.
He said his experience with the justice system inspired his campaign, emphasizing reform and community safety, NBC News has reported.
Spencer will face Democrat Brian Mitchell Sr. in the general election this November.
