A young girl missing for nearly six years from Duarte has been found in North Carolina, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced.

The child, identified as Karen Rojas by Missing People in America, was last reported missing on July 1, 2020, after her mother ceased communication with the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services during an ongoing investigation.

LASD received information in March indicating she might be in Washington County, North Carolina.

Local authorities located Rojas enrolled at a school, and she is now safely in protective custody, KTLA has reported.

The investigation remains ongoing, with LASD continuing coordination with DCFS and North Carolina officials.
