Eight Arab, Islamic countries condemn Israeli closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Eight Muslim-majority countries — Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates — condemned Israel for keeping Al-Aqsa Mosque closed during Ramadan for the 12th day.

In a joint statement, their foreign ministers said Israel’s restrictions on Palestinian access to Jerusalem Old City and its holy sites violate international law and the historical status quo.

They rejected Israel’s actions at Al-Aqsa and said the country has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

The ministers also stated that the entire Al-Aqsa compound is exclusively for Muslim worship and under the authority of the Jerusalem Endowments affiliated with Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf, Al-Jazeera has reported.

They called on Israel to reopen the mosque, lift access restrictions, and urged the international community to stop what they described as ongoing violations of Palestinian rights.
