The FBI is investigating a fatal shooting at Old Dominion University in Virginia as an act of terrorism after 36-year-old Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a former Virginia National Guardsman who previously served time for attempting to support ISIS, killed one person and injured two others.
The shooter targeted an ROTC class, fatally wounding retired Army officer Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, before being subdued and killed by students, one of whom used a knife.
Authorities confirmed Jalloh had only one weapon and no explosives were found, and he reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the attack.
Two victims were Army personnel, with one dying and another in critical condition, while a third was treated and released, CBS News has reported.
Jalloh had been sentenced in 2017 to 11 years in prison for attempting to support ISIS but was released early in December 2024, and investigators have found no evidence linking the shooting to the Middle East war.
