The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, experienced a non-combat fire in its main laundry room while operating in the Red Sea, which was quickly extinguished.
Two sailors were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition, and the ship remains fully operational with no damage to its propulsion system.
The Navy has not yet disclosed the cause of the fire but plans to release more information.
The carrier began its deployment on June 24, 2025, and has been at sea for 261 days, supporting operations from counter-narcotics in the Southern Command area to tensions in the Middle East, the Navy Times has reported.
The Ford has also faced ongoing plumbing problems with its vacuum waste system, reportedly calling for repairs 42 times since 2023.
