Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, 41, drove a truck with explosives into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, on March 12, before exchanging gunfire with security and being killed.
Ghazali, a U.S. citizen originally from Lebanon, had obtained citizenship in 2016 and lived in Dearborn Heights.
The attack injured a security guard and hospitalized 30 officers for smoke inhalation, but none of the 140 students or staff were harmed.
Authorities said the incident was a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community, though no official motive has been confirmed; neighbors noted Ghazali’s family suffered casualties in recent airstrikes in Lebanon, People.com has reported.
Temple Israel’s trained security and rapid first-responder action prevented further harm, and law enforcement had been on high alert due to the ongoing U.S.-Israel-Iran war.
