Biggest wildfire in Nebraska history continues to burn out of control

Three major wildfires, including Nebraska’s largest ever, have burned roughly 600,000 acres across central and western Nebraska, killing one person and remaining 0% contained.

The Morrill Fire alone has consumed over 460,000 acres across Morrill, Arthur, and Keith counties, while the Cottonwood Fire and Road 203 Fire have burned 100,000 and 40,000 acres, respectively.

Governor Jim Pillen declared a state of emergency, deploying the Nebraska National Guard and calling for assistance from Omaha, Lincoln, and neighboring states.

Two Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopters are aiding firefighting efforts amid forecasted dry, windy conditions that threaten to worsen the blazes, ABC News has reported.

Authorities emphasized the need for prayers and support as emergency crews continue battling the fires under extreme conditions.
