Hawaii faces flash flooding, blizzard conditions and landslides

A powerful kona storm has battered Hawaii, bringing heavy rain, flash flooding, landslides, and blizzard conditions to the islands.

Maui, Molokai, and the Big Island saw rainfall of 1–2 inches per hour, with some areas of Maui receiving over 20 inches in 24 hours, causing collapsed roads and at least one home to wash away.

More than 35,000 residents were without power, and the National Weather Service issued flood watches, flash flood warnings, and wind advisories.

Snowfall up to 20 inches was reported on the Big Island’s highest peaks, disrupting equipment on Mauna Kea, The Guardian has reported.

Emergency crews, including the National Guard, conducted multiple rescues as residents dealt with flooding, debris, and extensive property damage.
