Woman accused of fatal hit-and-run that killed 8-year-old laughs during first court appearance

Victoria Johnson, 30, of Winter Haven, Florida, appeared via video conference for her first court hearing after a crash killed an 8-year-old boy and seriously injured a 10-year-old.

She was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash, leaving the scene with serious injury, tampering with evidence, driving without a license causing death, and giving false information to law enforcement.

During the hearing, Johnson shook her head, laughed, and claimed, “I wasn’t even in the car,” before agreeing to have a public defender appointed.

Authorities said she admitted to driving the SUV while under the influence of methamphetamine, with a suspended license, and initially tried to hide the vehicle, Fox News has reported.

The judge set her bond at $100,000, though she remains held without bond on a separate probation violation tied to a prior DUI.
