Netanyahu says revolution in Iran will require ‘ground component’ to war

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said overthrowing Iran’s regime will require a “ground component” in addition to air strikes, while urging the Iranian people to rise against their leadership.

Netanyahu claimed Israel has neutralized Iran’s uranium enrichment and ballistic missile capabilities and will continue strikes to destroy them, noting Israel acted alone in recent attacks on the South Pars gas field.

The remarks highlight differences between Israel’s goal of regime change and U.S. objectives, with President Donald Trump denying plans to deploy U.S. troops, though reports indicate thousands may be sent to reinforce operations.

Former U.S. negotiator Aaron David Miller and House intelligence officials emphasized the diverging priorities, with Israel focusing on disabling Iran’s leadership while the U.S. targets broader military capabilities, The Hill has reported.

Public opinion shows skepticism, as a Reuters/Ipsos poll found 65 percent of Americans believe Trump will eventually order a ground invasion, while only 7 percent support such a move.
