Military leaders have submitted requests and held planning meetings, including scenarios for detaining Iranian personnel if troops are deployed.

Although Trump publicly denied plans to send ground troops, he left open the possibility.

The White House emphasized that these preparations are routine and do not indicate a final decision, CBS News has reported.

Meanwhile, U.S. forces, including Marines and elements of the 82nd Airborne Division, are being positioned in the Middle East to expand available military options.
