Hawaii has suffered an estimated $1 billion in damages after two storms dropped up to 50 inches of rain, causing widespread flooding on Oahu and other islands.

Over 230 people were rescued, and officials report no fatalities so far, though many homes and roads were heavily affected.

The Hawaii National Guard is monitoring the Wahiawa dam, which prompted evacuations due to fears of overflow.

Residents, including actor Jason Momoa, were forced to evacuate as floodwaters inundated homes and roadways, the BBC has reported.

Authorities continue to warn against driving through water and boating between islands, as further rainfall is expected in Maui and other areas.
