The United Kingdom has proposed hosting an international summit to create a coordinated plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for about 20% of global oil shipments.
The waterway has effectively been shut due to tensions with Iran following the conflict involving the United States and Israel.
More than 30 countries, including France, Germany, and Canada, have agreed to work together on securing the route.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned the conflict may not end quickly, while officials explore military and logistical options to protect shipping, The Guardian has reported.
The disruption has driven up global energy prices and raised concerns about wider economic damage, prompting calls for urgent de-escalation.
