Fireball sightings are surging across the US

A recent cluster of bright fireballs was reported across North America and parts of Europe between March 17–23, 2026, including sightings in states like Ohio, California, Michigan, Georgia, and Texas, where a meteor fragment even struck a home.

Similar events were also reported earlier in Vancouver, France, and Germany, with some meteors producing sonic booms and widespread visibility.

Data from the American Meteor Society shows a rise in reported fireball sightings in recent months, though scientists note this may reflect both slightly elevated activity and increased public reporting.

Experts say the surge is still within normal statistical variation and is likely influenced by heightened awareness after notable events, Space.com has reported.

One major incident involved a meteor exploding over Texas on March 21, with fragments reaching the ground and drawing significant attention.
