A bipartisan House ethics subcommittee has found sufficient grounds to advance disciplinary action against Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick over allegations involving misuse of disaster relief funds.
The panel’s summary judgment concluded that most of the alleged violations, including improper campaign financing and false disclosures, were supported by evidence.
Cherfilus-McCormick is also facing a separate federal criminal indictment tied to accusations that she misused millions of dollars from a family business connected to disaster relief funds.
The committee will next consider recommended punishment, which could include expulsion, though that would require a two-thirds vote in the House, Fox News has reported.
She has pleaded not guilty, and the case continues to move forward in both congressional and criminal proceedings.
