Missouri court says new US House districts are in effect ahead of midterm elections

A Missouri judge ruled that new U.S. House districts backed by Donald Trump can be used in upcoming midterm elections despite challenges tied to a potential voter referendum.

The decision by Cole County Circuit Judge Brian Stumpe allows Republicans to proceed with the map, which they argue could help them gain an additional congressional seat.

Opponents, including the American Civil Liberties Union, contend the map should be suspended due to a petition with over 300,000 signatures and plan to appeal the ruling.

The judge said the lawsuit was premature and that suspending legislation requires verification that the petition meets legal requirements, the AP has reported.

The case is part of a broader national redistricting battle, with both parties attempting to gain electoral advantages ahead of the midterms.
