Police in Los Angeles arrested dozens of protesters and used tear gas, pepper rounds, and bean bags to disperse a crowd at a “No Kings” demonstration on Saturday night.
The unrest occurred near the Metropolitan Detention Center, which has become a recurring protest site tied to immigration enforcement actions under the Donald Trump administration.
Earlier in the day, tens of thousands of people joined more than 40 protests across Southern California, expressing opposition to immigration policies, rising costs, and foreign policy issues.
Authorities said some protesters threw objects at police, prompting a tactical response and the arrest of those who refused to disperse, The Guardian has reported.
Separate confrontations also broke out between protesters and counter-protesters at a nearby Trump-related property, highlighting heightened tensions during the demonstrations.
