Severe flooding, landslides, and thunderstorms across Afghanistan have killed 17 people and injured 26 in the past 24 hours, with more heavy rain expected.
The country’s disaster management officials said casualties could rise as assessments continue across 13 affected provinces.
The storms have destroyed or damaged hundreds of homes, roads, farmland, irrigation systems, and businesses, impacting hundreds of families.
Authorities, including the National Disaster Management Authority, have warned residents in at-risk areas to avoid rivers and prepare for possible additional flooding, the AP has reported.
Afghanistan’s vulnerability to extreme weather, worsened by factors like poor infrastructure, and has made such disasters increasingly deadly in recent years.
