Israel’s parliament passed a controversial law introducing the death penalty for Palestinians convicted of killing Israelis, drawing strong international criticism.
The measure, backed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and far-right lawmakers, makes execution by hanging the default punishment for such offenses.
Although the law technically allows it for Israeli citizens, experts say it will mainly apply to Palestinians.
It will not be applied retroactively, including to those involved in the October 7, 2023 attacks, the AP has reported.
The legislation is expected to face legal challenges before it can take effect.
