Four individuals tied to BHRAGS Home Care Corp. were arrested in a federal corruption probe involving alleged theft and bribery related to NYC homeless shelter contracts.
Prosecutors say leaders of the nonprofit stole over $1.3 million in public funds and received kickbacks in exchange for steering millions of dollars in contracts to specific businesses.
The investigation is also examining potential bribery involving Farah Louis and her sister Debbie Louis, though they were not among those arrested and have not been charged.
BHRAGS has received nearly $200 million in city contracts since 2022, and the case was initially flagged by the city’s Department of Social Services, the AP has reported.
All defendants have pleaded not guilty, while officials say the investigation is ongoing and further scrutiny of city contracts is possible.
