Two longtime members of the Walnuttown Fire Company were killed Saturday when their utility vehicle was struck head-on while they were assisting in a search for a missing woman in Richmond Township, Pennsylvania.
Fire Chief Jeffory Buck and Assistant Chief Robert Shick Jr. were taken to hospitals but later died from their injuries.
Authorities said the driver of the car and a passenger fled the scene but were later located, and the driver is expected to face charges including vehicular homicide and DUI.
First responders and community members held a procession to honor the fallen chiefs, reflecting widespread public support, ABC 6 Action News has reported.
Despite the tragedy, the missing woman they had been searching for was found safe later that night.
