New Hampshire suspect who shot officer and triggered massive manhunt killed in police gunfight

The suspect accused of shooting a New Hampshire police officer was killed in a gunfight with law enforcement, officials said.

Matthew J. Masse allegedly shot family members and then opened fire on responding officers in Raymond, prompting a large manhunt and shelter-in-place order.

After hours of searching, authorities located him in a wooded area, where an exchange of gunfire occurred during an attempted arrest.

Officials later found Masse dead at the scene, and an autopsy is planned to determine the exact cause of death, Fox News has reported.

A Nottingham police officer was injured but is expected to recover, and authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
