The frontline is like Terminator’: fighting robots give Ukraine hope in war

The war in Ukraine has increasingly shifted into a technological conflict, with unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) playing a rapidly expanding role since 2024.

These battery-powered robots are used for logistics, combat support, engineering tasks, and evacuating wounded soldiers, often replacing human troops in dangerous situations.

Ukrainian forces, including units like the Mykhailo Fedorov and military corps leadership, say robots now handle the majority of certain operations and help reduce casualties.

The battlefield has become highly automated, with both Ukraine and Russia deploying ground robots alongside widespread use of drones, transforming tactics and operations, The Guardian has reported.

Despite losses of some systems, Ukraine views the technology as a critical advantage that is reshaping modern warfare and could significantly reduce the need for soldiers in frontline roles.
