A toddler sustained minor injuries after crawling under a fence at Zoo America and approaching a wolf enclosure.
The unsupervised 18-month-old reached through a barrier, where a wolf made contact with the child’s hand, which the zoo described as normal animal behavior rather than aggression.
The child was never inside the enclosure, and the incident occurred outside multiple layers of protective barriers.
Zoo officials said visitor safety is a priority but emphasized the importance of supervising children and staying within designated areas, NBC News has reported.
The zoo did not release the family’s identity or further details about the child’s injuries, describing them as minor.
