Artemis 2 completed a historic lunar flyby, looping around the far side of the Moon and giving its four astronauts views never seen by humans before.
The mission marked the first time astronauts traveled beyond low Earth orbit since the Apollo era, and it set a new distance record by going farther from Earth than any previous crew.
During the journey, the crew also observed a total solar eclipse from beyond the Moon.
The Orion capsule “Integrity” entered the Moon’s sphere of influence and reached a maximum distance of about 252,756 miles from Earth, Space.com has reported.
Along the way, the astronauts shared personal moments, including naming lunar features in honor of their spacecraft and a late family member.
