Car crashes into Willamette River in Portland, leaving 2 dead and 1 missing

Two people have died and a third is presumed dead after a car crashed in downtown Portland and went into the Willamette River early Monday.

Police said the vehicle was seen speeding the wrong way and running red lights before an officer attempted a stop, but no pursuit occurred.

The car then crossed streets near Waterfront Park and entered the river.

Rescue teams recovered two bodies, while one person was pulled from the water alive and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, Fox 12 Oregon has reported.

All four occupants were between 17 and 20 years old, and one person remains missing and is presumed dead as the investigation continues.
