Deere & Co agrees to pay $99 million to settle ‘right to repair’ lawsuit

Deere & Co. has agreed to pay $99 million to settle a class action lawsuit accusing the company of monopolizing farm equipment repair services.

The lawsuit claimed the company restricted access to repair software and worked with authorized dealers to limit independent repairs, leading to higher costs for farmers.

Although Deere denies wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement to resolve the case, which still requires court approval.

The agreement includes payments to customers who paid for repairs between 2018 and the preliminary approval date, along with measures to improve access to repair tools and diagnostics, the AP has reported.

Deere also continues to face separate legal action from the Federal Trade Commission over similar “right to repair” concerns.
