Delta, Southwest raise checked bag fees $10 amid jet fuel price surge

Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines are raising checked bag fees by $10 as airlines respond to rising jet fuel costs.

Southwest will charge $45 for a first checked bag and $55 for a second, while Delta’s new fees apply to domestic and some international flights booked starting Wednesday.

These increases follow similar moves by other major carriers, including United Airlines and JetBlue Airways, as the industry faces higher operating expenses.

Jet fuel prices have surged significantly in recent months due to global supply disruptions linked to conflict affecting the Strait of Hormuz, CNBC has reported.

Airlines are adjusting pricing as they seek to offset costs, while investors watch whether strong travel demand can help balance the impact of higher fuel expenses.
