Massive hack exposes thousands of sensitive LAPD records

A major data breach at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office exposed thousands of sensitive records tied to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The hack, which occurred in March, reportedly compromised more than 337,000 files and over seven terabytes of data, including witness identities, medical records, and internal investigation documents.

Some of the stolen material was briefly posted online before being removed.

The Los Angeles Police Department said its own systems were not directly affected and that it is working with city officials to assess the full scope of the breach, KTLA 5 has reported.

Authorities have not identified those responsible, and it remains unclear whether a ransom was involved.
