In a special election in Georgia’s 14th congressional district, voters chose between Republican candidate Clay Fuller and Democrat Shawn Harris, both of whom had military backgrounds but differed on support for U.S. policy toward Iran.
The district, which had strongly supported Republicans in previous elections, ultimately remained in conservative control despite Harris improving on Democratic margins.
The race drew national attention because the seat had been held by former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who resigned earlier in the year.
The campaign highlighted broader political themes, including opposition to war, with Harris criticizing U.S. military involvement and Fuller backing President Donald Trump’s actions on Iran, The Guardian has reported.
Although Harris out-raised Fuller and narrowed the gap compared to prior elections, Republicans maintained their advantage in the district.
