Schumer says Senate will vote on war powers next week

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that the Senate will vote on a war powers resolution aimed at limiting President Donald Trump’s authority over military actions involving Iran.

The measure is intended to reassert Congress’s constitutional role in decisions about war and comes amid ongoing ceasefire and peace negotiations between the United States and Iran.

Schumer and other Democrats argue that no president should be able to take the country into war unilaterally and are urging bipartisan support for the resolution.

Previous efforts by Senate and House lawmakers to curb military operations in Iran have failed, The Hill has reported.

The debate continues alongside administration efforts to secure a longer-term agreement and reopen key shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
