Suspect who killed California deputy run over by armored vehicle after hours-long firefight standoff

A Tulare County sheriff’s detective, Deputy Randy Hoppert, was killed in Porterville, California, United States while serving an eviction notice when a suspect opened fire on deputies in what authorities called an ambush.

The suspect, identified as David Eric Morales, allegedly barricaded himself, continued shooting at law enforcement, and later exited the home still posing a threat.

Authorities said Morales was ultimately killed when a law enforcement armored BearCat vehicle ran him over after he refused to surrender.

The shooting triggered an hours-long standoff involving multiple agencies and heavy gunfire directed at deputies and equipment, Fox News has reported.

Officials described the incident as a senseless attack on law enforcement and said Hoppert died shortly after being taken to the hospital.
