At least 30 people were killed and dozens injured in a crowd crush at the Citadelle Laferrière fortress, a popular tourist site in northern Haiti.
The incident reportedly occurred during a large gathering of mostly young visitors, with panic breaking out near a single entrance, possibly worsened by rumors and social media promotion.
Emergency services and officials confirmed multiple deaths and said rescue operations were ongoing, while the site was closed indefinitely.
Authorities urged calm as they investigated the cause of the disaster and treated the injured, The Guardian has reported.
The tragedy adds to Haiti’s ongoing struggles with instability, violence, and economic hardship.
