Former President Donald Trump is now facing a significant legal challenge, as an indictment unsealed on Friday reveals that he is confronting 37 felony charges related to the mishandling of classified documents.

The charges stem from allegations that Trump disclosed a classified map and discussed a Pentagon “plan of attack.”

The 49-page indictment presents a damning portrayal of Trump’s handling of sensitive information, asserting that he purposefully disregarded demands from the Justice Department to return the documents he had taken from the White House to his residence at Mar-a-Lago, the Associated Press has reported.

Furthermore, the document accuses Trump of instructing his aides to aid in concealing the records sought by the government.

This indictment represents the first official confirmation from the Justice Department regarding a criminal case against Trump resulting from the retention of numerous documents at Mar-a-Lago.

Alongside Trump, Walt Nauta, a Trump aide observed removing boxes at Mar-a-Lago in surveillance footage, is also named as a co-defendant in the indictment.

The charges against Trump primarily revolve around the improper removal of numerous boxes from the White House, many of which contained classified information.

These charges carry significant legal consequences, including the potential for imprisonment if Trump is found guilty.
