Addressing the recent short-lived rebellion against Russian military leaders and the potential threat to President Vladimir Putin’s rule, President Joe Biden made his first public comments on Monday, emphasizing that the United States and its NATO allies were not involved.
Biden stated that he immediately instructed his national security team to prepare for various scenarios as soon as the tumultuous situation unfolded in Russia on Friday.
He also held a virtual video call with key allies to discuss the matter, ABC News reported.
During the call, Biden and his allies reached an agreement that it was crucial to ensure that Putin had no grounds to place blame on the West or NATO.
Biden firmly stated, “We made clear that we were not involved. We had nothing to do with it. This was part of an internal struggle within the Russian system.”
The president’s remarks aimed to clarify the position of the United States and its allies, firmly asserting that they played no role in the events and sought to avoid any opportunity for Putin to shift blame onto them.
