In a move aimed at distinguishing himself from former President Donald Trump on immigration, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took action on Monday by portraying Trump as ineffective on the issue that propelled him to the White House in 2016.
Furthermore, he criticized President Joe Biden, asserting that Biden’s approach is even worse, Politico reported.
As part of his initial major policy proposal as a presidential candidate, DeSantis advocated for the termination of “catch and release” – a practice where undocumented migrants are released into the United States while awaiting court hearings.
He called for asylum seekers along the U.S.-Mexico border to be denied entry until their claims are processed.
Additionally, echoing a previous stance by Trump, he proposed ending automatic citizenship for children born in the United States to parents living in the country illegally, a proposition that is likely to encounter significant legal challenges.
