In light of “emerging evidence,” prosecutors have made the decision to dismiss murder charges against a woman and her 14-year-old son.

Less than a week ago, the woman was accused of instructing her son to kill a man who had allegedly assaulted her at a hot dog stand on the South Side, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Carlishia Hood, aged 35, had previously appeared in court last Thursday, facing charges of first-degree murder and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Judge Barbara Dawkins had ordered Hood to be held on a $3 million bail.

While Hood’s next court date had been scheduled for next month, prosecutors organized a hearing on Monday during which they announced the dismissal of all charges against her.

Furthermore, they also revealed that the murder charges against the boy have been dropped.

The Cook County state’s attorney’s office has issued a statement stating that they have decided to dismiss the charges against Carlisha Hood and her 14-year-old son in light of recently emerged evidence.

The office explained that, considering the facts, evidence, and applicable law, they are unable to meet the required burden of proof for prosecuting these cases.

While the office did not disclose the specific nature of the new evidence leading to their decision, it follows the circulation of a video on social media over the weekend.

The video appears to depict Jeremy Brown, the deceased individual, assaulting Hood just before he was shot on June 18. It is worth noting that the video, believed to have been recorded by a bystander, does not show the actual shooting.

The incident was also captured on high-definition surveillance cameras, as confirmed by officials.
