Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, a Democrat, is facing criticism for employing tactics reminiscent of the Nixon era, as her administration recently admitted to creating a list comprising her most vocal critics and sharing it with local authorities.
The administration acknowledged that the list was compiled in response to a request from the Boston Police Department, the New York Post reported.
The request was made after Mayor Wu experienced months of harassment and physical intimidation from individuals, both outside her residence and during public events such as the annual neighborhood parks coffee hours.
The intention behind creating the list was to address safety concerns and ensure appropriate measures were in place.
The revelation of the list came to light when it was uncovered in an email obtained through a public records request by opponents of Mayor Wu.
This revelation has raised concerns about potential attempts to silence or intimidate her critics, many of whom have staged protests outside her home.
According to a statement from Mayor Wu’s spokesman, Ricardo Patron, the request from the police arose due to several individuals repeatedly obstructing the Dorchester Day Parade.
