Child killed, 10 wounded in Back of the Yards mass shooting, Chicago police say

A tragic mass shooting occurred in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood on Saturday night, leaving an 8-year-old girl dead and at least 10 others injured, including three children.

Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert and found 11 gunshot victims in the area. The 8-year-old girl, who was struck in the head, was pronounced dead at Comer Children’s Hospital.

A 1-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy were critically injured with multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Another 9-year-old child suffered a graze wound to the finger and was in good condition.

Additionally, a 36-year-old man was listed in critical condition after being shot in the arm and back. Six other victims sustained gunshot wounds but were in good condition, NBC 5 Chicago has reported.

The shooting occurred when an individual in a black sedan fired numerous shots into a crowd before fleeing.

No suspects have been apprehended, and the investigation is ongoing.
