Stabbing rampage at Sydney mall leaves at least seven dead, including attacker

A stabbing spree at a mall in Sydney, Australia, left seven people dead and several others critically injured, including a baby.

The attacker, who was shot by a lone officer, was among the deceased. Police Commissioner Anthony Cooke stated that the assailant, armed with a likely knife, harmed approximately nine individuals before being confronted by the officer.

Surveillance footage showed the chaotic scene as some shoppers fled and others attempted to intervene.

Hundreds were evacuated from the mall, with reports of some shops securing people inside for safety, NBC News has reported.

Witnesses recounted harrowing experiences, with some providing aid to the injured. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the attack as a senseless act of violence, offering condolences to the victims’ families and praising the bravery of responders.

Royal figures also expressed shock and sympathy for those affected. The officer who confronted the attacker was hailed as a hero for her decisive actions.
